What is Dental Sedation?
Dental sedation refers to a variety of techniques used to make patients more comfortable during dental procedures.
For some people, nervousness or fear of dental procedures may prevent them from getting the treatment they need. This fear sometimes stems from a childhood experience, and the thought of dental work may be enough for them to choose not to do it. Unfortunately, issues like this may not go away on their own. With this in mind, we can offer sedation to our patients.
With the help of sedation, we hope to empower anxious patients so they feel comfortable seeking dental care and not put off taking care of oral health issues.
How Does it Feel to Be Sedated?
Patients often feel calm and relaxed during sedation, commonly known as "sleep dentistry." However, it's important to understand that patients will remain awake during this procedure, allowing them to respond to the dentist's instructions.
Although patients maintain consciousness, the sedative effects can help increase comfort and reduce anxiety. Many individuals find that they do not recall the details of the procedure once the sedation wears off, making it a desirable option for those who may feel apprehensive about dental treatments.
Overall, sedation offers a way to undergo dental procedures with less stress while still allowing patients to participate in their care.
