Early Dental Care
As children get older, they begin to lose their baby teeth and get their first permanent teeth. This occurs around age five to seven, typically earlier for girls and later for boys. Children will lose eight teeth, but twelve new teeth will emerge to replace them.
Three common problems we deal with in this age group relate to tooth decay, orthodontics (how the teeth and jaws develop), and trauma (sports injuries, for example). Preventive care and addressing issues early can help prevent problems later. This includes routine care like brushing and flossing, as well as regular dental cleanings.
At Downtown Chilliwack Dental, we're committed to helping children feel at ease during their dental appointments so they can maintain good oral health today and into adulthood. Reach out to our team today to learn more about how we can help protect your child's smile.
How Often Should My Child Visit The Dentist?
We encourage you to bring your child in for a dental visit around the time that their first teeth begin to erupt. This initial visit can help us diagnose any potential issues that need to be addressed. Moving forward, children should visit the dentist for a cleaning at least twice a year.
Dental Services for Kids
At Downtown Chilliwack Dental, our dentist will educate you and your children on oral hygiene routines to help them maintain a healthy smile.
Preventive Dental Hygiene
Visiting the dentist for regular exams and cleanings when your child is young will help preserve the primary teeth until they are ready to be replaced by permanent teeth. Fluoride treatments may be recommended if your child is at risk of developing tooth decay.
Restorative Dental Services
If your child has developed a cavity, your dentist may recommend restorative treatments such as dental fillings.
